The Incorruptible Seed: Falling, Dying, and Producing
Overview
This sermon explores the profound truth that believers are "incorruptible seed," born again through the living Word of God. It unpacks the spiritual journey of transformation, likening it to a seed that must fall, die, and be buried before it can produce abundant fruit and fulfill its divine potential, ultimately revealing our new identity in Christ.

Main Points
Our Identity as Incorruptible Seed - Born of God's living Word.
As believers, we are born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible seed—the living and abiding Word of God (1 Peter 1:23). This new birth transforms us into new creations in Christ, where old things pass away and all things become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are referred to as God's "seed," like the "seed of Abraham" (Psalm 105:6), signifying potential and a divine lineage. This spiritual rebirth requires a renewal of our minds, aligning our perspective with God's Word rather than our former fleshly ways (Romans 12:2).
The Seed Principle: Falling and Dying to Produce Life - Embracing surrender and self-denial.
Jesus taught that "unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain" (John 12:24 NKJV). This principle applies to our spiritual lives. To fulfill our potential and produce fruit for God, we must be willing to "die to self"—to our selfish ambitions, beliefs, and ways of living that hinder God's purpose for us. This dying isn't destruction, but a necessary surrender that leads to true life and purpose in Christ.
The Three Transformative Phases of the Seed - From isolation to abundant fruitfulness.
The journey of the incorruptible seed involves three crucial phases:
- The Falling Phase: This is the period where we let go of what we've held onto, allowing God to take full control. It's a surrender of our ideas and former beliefs, falling into God's will and plan.
- The Ugly Phase: Once fallen, the seed is buried, experiencing darkness, loneliness, and pain. This "ugly phase" is often a wilderness season where things don't look pretty, but it's a vital time for deep root-building. Just as a seed dies to its outer shell to create roots, we die to the flesh, allowing God to establish a strong foundation within us, preparing us for what's to come.
- The Comeback Phase: After dying and rooting, the seed emerges as a new plant, producing much fruit. This "comeback phase" signifies resurrection and glory, where God gives it a new body as He pleases (1 Corinthians 15:38). Our trials, pain, and experiences, once buried, become the source of blessings for many, as one seed yields many more. We are sown in dishonor and weakness but raised in glory and power (1 Corinthians 15:42-43).
Our Heavenly Image and Purpose - Transformed from dust to divine.
We were initially born of the "man of dust" (the first Adam), inheriting a natural body and a sinful nature (1 Corinthians 15:47-48, Romans 3:23). However, through being born again, we now bear the image of the "heavenly man" (the last Adam, Jesus Christ). This means we are raised with a spiritual body, empowered by God's Spirit within us (1 Corinthians 15:44, 49). Our challenges and difficulties, when viewed through the lens of the incorruptible seed, are not meant to destroy us but to facilitate our transformation, bringing forth the heavenly image and purpose God has for us.
